synopsis
The clients wanted to have a traditional home and loved red brick and clean white trim. The brickwork on this project played an important role in terms of creating interest and breaking up the massing to a more pedestrian scale. Soldier courses were mixed throughout the bricklaying process along with stack bonds mixed with common bonds in a very systematic and geometric way. The pavilions on the front are semi-symmetrical to give interest, and also to function in their own ways: the left allows for access to the front entry, while the right side allows for a single bay garage opening. Even though there is only one garage bay, the garage level easily accommodates 7 cars and the elevator. The rear of the home simply maxes out the square footage and becomes very symmetrical while giving views to the open water. The second level lanai has roll-down bug screens and also houses a built-in pizza over, that required level two floor system to be made out of concrete. The brickwork also makes its way into the kitchen area over the oven. The primary bathroom has a sliding barn door from the bathtub to the bed area to allow for views to the open water from the bathroom. All of the exterior cladding is either brick or white trim in the form of cementitious trim boards or composite railings.
