who we are
HWA is a small architectural studio with a main focus on imaginative single family homes. We blend modern aesthetics with practical buildability, working directly with owners, builders, and municipalities to create durable, light-filled architecture.
The firm is run by David Balber, RA, NCARB. David’s work has been featured in numerous publications, won countless design awards, and David himself has been featured on radio spots discussing current trends in residential architecture. His architectural career started in 1998 when he began attending the University of South Florida where he received his Master of Architecture degree.
David heads a team of trusted MEP (Mechanical Electrical Plumbing) consultants as well as Structural, Civil, and Geotechnical engineers. We also have a full line of interior design services at our disposal.

We approach every project as if it were our own. We are always looking for creative ways to solve even the most mundane problems (i.e. how to circulate from one level to another). There isn’t anything that’s off the table for us. We have the knowledge and experience to push the boundaries of what can and cannot be done.
technology
HWA utilizes 3-dimensional computer models for all of our projects. This enables us to study what the building will look like and how it will function before it’s actually built. Our computer models are “built” to a fraction of an inch to allow us to measure and manipulate the design in real time. The model also allows us to easily manipulate materiality and colors. The model is entered into our system using longitudinal and latitudinal data which allows us to perform solar analysis which can show how the sun will move over the design on any given day at any given time.
one-stop shop
While HWA Architecture is not a construction company, we do offer full construction services from our affiliate company Homeworks Builders. The whole concept behind HWA Architecture was to create a way for clients to be able to have one self-contained company that would handle every service they’d need to take their custom home from napkin sketch, through design, through permitting, and ultimately into the built environment. We have the capability and expertise to design a house from scratch and then make it so when it’s time to move in, all you would need is your toothbrush: the home would be fully furnished by our interior designers.
Having said this, please know that HWA will always welcome the opportunity to work with other trusted builders. If you already have a contractor that you’d like to work with and are simply requiring the services of an architecture firm, we’d love to collaborate. We just wanted to give our clients the option of having all of the necessary services under one roof if possible.
